UCO Loses At Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. – Central Oklahoma fell 77-71 on the road at Missouri Southern Thursday night in the MIAA.
 
The Bronchos are now 8-8 on the season following the loss and 2-5 in league play. UCO wraps up a four-game road trip Saturday at Pittsburg State looking to avoid a four-game losing streak.
 
Thursday night's league matchup was a back-and-forth affair in the first 20 minutes, but Missouri Southern controlled the second half on its way to victory. The Bronchos couldn't keep pace with a 39.7 percent mark shooting the basketball Thursday.
 
UCO was 25-for-63 from the floor, including a 6-for-22 line from outside. The Bronchos were 15-for-22 at the free-throw line. Missouri Southern shot 54.5 percent overall, made seven 3-pointers, and went 10-for-14 at the line.
 
In the first 20 minutes, there were six lead changes. UCO took its biggest lead of the half, 34-32, into the halftime locker room. Central made one less shot than Southern, including one less 3-pointer, but had a 5-0 advantage at the free-throw line and a 7-0 advantage on the offensive glass.
 
Coming out of halftime, JV Seat hit a 3-pointer that gave UCO a 37-32 lead, extending its biggest lead of the game to five points. But Southern answered with a 5-0 run, and after a Jarreth Ingram free-throw with 18:06 to play in the second half, MSSU took a 39-38 lead. The Bronchos never recovered.
 
Missouri Southern stretched its lead to 12 points down the stretch, 63-53. Central Oklahoma got it back down to four points in the end, 75-71, but couldn't get all the way back.
 
Israel Hart led Central Oklahoma with 19 points. Jordan Thompson scored 17 points. The duo both came off the bench on Thursday. Jacobi Sebock had 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Seat finished with 11 points.
 
Luke Haasl added four points, Matthew Willenborg scored three points all on free-throws, Ben Averitt chipped in two points, and Ingram finished with the one. Willenborg helped Sebock on the glass with six rebounds and Haasl had four. Willenborg also had two blocks and Haasl and Sebock both had one.
 
Central Oklahoma is playing at Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon to wrap up a four-game road trip. The Bronchos are playing the first game of the league doubleheader. The MIAA TV Game of the Week airing live over the air on 38 The Spot in Kansas City features the Pitt State Gorillas and Central Oklahoma. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:40 p.m.
