Central Oklahoma Win Streak Ends In Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma couldn't keep pace with a hot-shooting Northeastern State Thursday night when the Bronchos lost a 93-84 MIAA contest against its 100-year rival.

The Bronchos had a four-game win streak coming into Thursday night's contest but are now 8-6 on the season and 2-3 in the MIAA.

Central held an early 8-2 lead that prompted an NSU timeout, and also led 15-9 after five minutes of play. But a rare 18-0 run by Northeastern State flipped the game upside down for the Bronchos. It was 27-15 10 minutes into the half.

Northeastern made 59.3 percent of its shots in the first half, including a 6-for-8 performance behind the 3-point line and an 11-for-13 boost at the free-throw line. That gave the hosts a 49-35 advantage.

UCO had to fight to lower the deficit throughout the second half. The Bronchos got within nine points on four occasions in the second half, including Preston Aymond's 3-point buzzer beater that made it the final, 93-84.

UCO shot 50 percent from the field Thursday. The Bronchos were 34-for-68 from the field and 4-for-20 from behind the 3-point line, as well as a 12-for-18 performance at the free-throw line.

Israel Hart led UCO with 18 points on 8 of 17 shooting. The senior guard hit both of his free-throw attempts and had four assists along with two rebounds and two steals. Jordan Thompson also scored in double figures with 15 on 6 of 11 shooting. The senior guard hit two of Central's four 3-pointers and one free-throw. He also had two assists, two rebounds, and one steal.

Caiden Punt gave UCO three in double figures with 12 points on a 6-for-6 shooting night. The sophomore added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 10 minutes on the floor.

Matthew Willenborg, who started Thursday with Luke Haasl out with an illness, scored nine points to go with 10 rebounds, four steals, and three blocked shots. He was 4-for-5 on the night, had a dunk on the team's first possession, and slammed home another big bucket late in the game.

Jacobi Sebock also scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds while dishing out four assists and blocking one shot. He was 4-for-7 from the floor and made one free-throw.

JV Seat added seven points with three free-throws. Aymond scored five points with two free-throws and added two rebounds in 13 minutes.

Jarreth Ingram scored five and Ben Averitt and Jack Robinson both scored two points.

Central Oklahoma plays at Arkansas Fort Smith on Saturday, the second of its four-game road trip. The Bronchos tipoff at 3 p.m. against the newest MIAA member, UAFS.
