Bronchos Roll Past Pitt State

UCO Improves to 15-0 To Tie School Record For Best Start

EDMOND – Unbeaten and No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma steamrolled Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House to tie a school record for the best start in school history.

The Bronchos cruised to a 25-13, 25-12, 25-21 romp in improving to 15-0, which ties the start made by the 2014 team. UCO also moved to 2-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association in completing a six-match homestand and notching its 11th sweep of the year, including the fourth in a row.

"We played pretty well," said head coach Edgar Miraku, who improved to 284-90 in his 12th year at the helm. "I thought the team came out ready to go today and did a great job staying focused. It's a great start for us, but we have to keep working and have to continue to improve."

It was another balanced offensive attack for the Bronchos. Addison Wimmer led the way, hitting .306 with 13 kills, two assisted blocks and two service aces.

Jenna Karp knocked down eight kills in 18 attempts with just one error for a .389 attack percentage to go along with two blocks. Mikaela Garvin hit a phenomenal .462 with seven kills and one miscue in 13 attacks, while Lari Migliorino also had seven kills in hitting .357.

Migliorino also had five blocks (four assisted, one solo) and Garvin two (one solo, one assisted). Lindsey Houran handed out 39 assists in directing the strong offensive attack and Katie Le's 18 digs paced the defense.

Karp had five kills and Wimmer four in the opening set that was a mismatch from the start. UCO bolted to an 8-2 lead, fended off a mild PSU rally and then pulled away to complete the 25-13 rout.

Wimmer dominated the second set with six kills in nine attempts and the Bronchos were never tested after jumping on top 8-1.

The Gorillas had their only leads of the entire match early in the third set, going up 1-0 and 2-1. It was tied five times before UCO took the lead for good at 10-9 on a PSU service error. Migliorino followed with back-to-back kills and the Bronchos went on to close out the match.

UCO opens a four-match league road swing next weekend, going to Missouri Southern Friday and Central Missouri.
