UCO Routs Newman To Open MIAA Play

Lari Migliorino Knocks Down 13 Kills To Lead The Bronchos

EDMOND – Lari Migliorino dominated from start to finish as Central Oklahoma opened its Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schedule with a three-set thrashing of Newman Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 13-ranked Bronchos stayed unbeaten with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-14 romp over the Jets, improving to 14-0 on the season. UCO is back on the home court at 2 p.m. Saturday to host Pittsburg State at 2 p.m.

"Our offense was really good tonight," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team made just six attack errors in hitting .404 for the match. "It was a great way to start the conference schedule. Every match is important in our league, so we can't have a letdown and have to come out tomorrow ready to go."

Migliorino was the catalyst in the rout. The junior middle blocker blasted down a season-high 13 kills with two errors in 19 attempts to finish with a sizzling .579 attack percentage while adding three blocks and a service ace.

Addison Wimmer had seven kills in two sets of action, while Mikiah Perdue and Sawyer Franz chipped in six kills apiece and Bryant Egger five in just nine tries. Riley Roberts had 36 assists in handling the setter duties and Katie Le led the defense with 18 digs.

The Bronchos seized command of the match early, jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first set behind a pair of Migliorino kills and a Sydney Huck ace. UCO increased its lead from there on its way to an easy win, with Migliorino collecting four kills and Wimmer three.

Newman tried to battle back in the second set and had a 5-4 lead early before the Bronchos grabbed control. Egger, Franz and Migliorino had two kills each in a 9-1 run that put UCO up 13-6 and the Jets had no answer,

It was all Central in the third set. Migliorino opened with a bullet down the middle, Franz followed with a shot down the line two NU errors put the Bronchos up 4-0.

The Jets never got closer than that the rest of the way and Migliorino finished with six kills in closing out the match.
