Bronchos Calm Savage Storm

UCO Moves To 13-0 With Sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma

EDMOND – Addison Wimmer collected 14 kills to lead another balanced offensive attack that gave Central Oklahoma a sweep of Southeastern Oklahoma in the final match of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 15-ranked Bronchos calmed the Savage Storm 25-20, 25-9, 25-16 and improved to 13-0 with their ninth sweep on the season. It ties the second-best start in school history, trailing only the 2014 team that opened 15-0.

It was also the 11th straight home win for UCO, which opens Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play next weekend. The Bronchos host Newman and Pittsburg State next Friday and Saturday at HFH.

"Our offense was pretty efficient today," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team hit .316 in the match with 46 kills and just 10 errors in 114 attacks. "It was a good weekend for us. We've still got a lot of work to do and everything gets tougher next week when we start conference play."

Wimmer had six kills in the opening set and four in each of the next two in finishing with 14 kills in 29 attempts with just two errors for a .414 attack percentage. The senior outside hitter also had seven digs and an assisted block.

Mikaela Garvin and Lari Migliorino were an unstoppable duo at the net, knocking down 10 kills apiece. Garvin hit .500 with three assisted blocks and Migliorino hit .409 with four assisted blocks.

Sydney Huck and Mikiah Perdue added five kills apiece, with Perdue also notching three blocks (two solo, one assisted). Katie Le had another stellar defensive outing with 23 digs.

Lindsey Houran and Riley Roberts split setter duties, with Roberts dishing out 22 assists and Houran 21 along with a service ace each. Houran moved into sixth place on UCO's career assists list with 2,927 in the early stages of her junior season.

Wimmer had two quick kills as the Bronchos jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first set, but SOSU rallied to take the lead at 12-10 and it was tied at 12, 13, 14, 16 and 17.

Back-to-back kills by Wimmer and Migliorino broke the 17-all deadlock to put UCO in front for good, with Migliorino and Garvin teaming up for a pair of blocks down the stretch to allow the Bronchos to finish off the win.

Central took charge early in the second set in rolling to that 16-point win, getting five kills from Migliorino and four from Wimmer.

The Savage Storm led early in the third set in an attempt to stay in the match, with UCO taking its first lead at 12-11 on a Garvin kill. The Bronchos pulled steadily away from there, getting two kills apiece from Garvin, Migliorino and Perdue the rest of the way to finish off the sweep.
