UCO Takes Two In MIAA/GAC Crossover

Bronchos Stay Unbeaten With Wins Over OBU and SOSU

EDMOND – A balanced offense carried Central Oklahoma to a pair of wins on the second day of the MIAA/GAC Crossover Challenge Friday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The No. 15-ranked and unbeaten Bronchos downed Oklahoma Baptist 25-22, 22-25, 25-9, 25-21 in their opening match before waltzing past East Central 25-18, 25-9, 25-17. UCO, now 12-0 on the season, finishes the three-day event at 4 p.m. Saturday against Southeastern Oklahoma.

"We got contributions from a lot of different players today and that's always good to see," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We didn't necessarily play our best, but did enough right to get the job done."

Three players had double-digit kills in the four-set win over OBU, led by Addison Wimmer's 13. Sydney Huck added 12 kills and Jenna Karp 11, while Mikaela Garvin chipped in six and Lari Migliorino five in just six attempts.

Lindsey Houran dished out 43 assists to go along with 13 digs, three kills and two service aces in another stellar all-around outing. Huck's 15 digs led the defense, with Wimmer and Katie Le making 13 apiece.

There were 10 ties and six lead changes in the first set, with UCO overcome a 9-6 deficit to pull even at 10-all. The teams were tied again at 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 before Migliorino and Garvin teamed up for a block to put the Bronchos ahead for good.

The Lady Bison took the second to even the match, but UCO answered with a dominating third-set romp to regain control.

Riley Roberts had two aces and Huck two kills to help the Bronchos grab a quick 5-0 lead, it was 12-3 following a Perdue-Wimmer block and the advantage was 17-5 after a Wimmer kill. Huck and Garvin had two kills apiece the rest of the way as UCO finished off the lopsided win.

It was another tight battle in the fourth set, with the Bronchos using an OBU error and Wimmer kill to break a 17-17 tie in taking the lead for good. Four different players had kills while Karp and Houran teamed up for a block the rest of the way to give UCO the victory.

Wimmer led the way again in the ECU rout with 11 kills, five digs and two assisted blocks. Migliorino hit .471 with 10 kills and two errors in 17 attacks while adding four blocks (three assisted, one solo) and two aces.

Garvin and Sawyer Franz contributed seven kills each and Mikiah Perdue had six in just 10 attempts. Perdue also had four blocks (three assisted, one solo). Houran and Roberts handed out 20 assists apiece and Le dug up 14 ECU attacks.

The Tigers led in the early going of the opening set and were up 8-7 before Perdue's solo block keyed a 6-1 run that put the Bronchos on top 13-9. Migliorino had two aces and a kill and Franz two kills the rest of the way.

Houran opened the second set with an ace and Migliorino had a kill and two assisted blocks as UCO zipped to a 5-0 lead. Migliorino added a solo block and kill in helping make it a 10-1 cushion and the Bronchos coasted in from there.

The third set was close early before Central used a 5-0 run to take control in turning an 8-7 lead into a 13-7 one. Migliorino and Perdue had four kills each in the fourth set, with Wimmer and Franz knocking down three apiece.
