Bronchos Finish Off Sweep At Flagler Classic

No. 18 Moves To UCO To 9-0 With Two Wins

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – No. 18-ranked Central Oklahoma finished off a four-match sweep at the Flagler Saints Classic Saturday with 3-0 wins over Nova Southeastern and Trevecca Nazarene.

The unbeaten Bronchos edged the previously undefeated Sharks 27-25, 25-21, 25-21 before ending the three-day event with a 25-23, 25-21, 25-16 triumph over the Trojans in moving to 9-0 on the season.

"I'm really proud of the team for the way we played this weekend," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We played well and beat some good teams. It's not easy to make a long trip like this and stay focused, but I thought we did a great job of taking care of business."

UCO has won every match on the road this season and finally makes its home debut at Hamilton Field House next week by hosting the MIAA/GAC Challenge. The Bronchos open that three-day, four-match event Thursday at 6 p.m. against Southwestern Oklahoma.

Central came from behind in all three sets to take down Nova Southeastern, with Sydney Huck leading the way.

The hard-hitting junior hit a blistering .484 with 18 kills and three errors in 31 attacks while adding seven digs and two service aces. Addison Wimmer added nine kills and three aces, with Mikaela Garvin chipping in eight kills and four assisted blocks.

Lindsey Houran contributed five kills with no miscues in nine attempts to go along with 36 assists, six digs and three aces.

Every set was a back-and-forth battle, but the Bronchos prevailed at the end in each one.

UCO trailed 25-24 in the first set before scoring the final three points to escape with the victory. Jenna Karp knocked down a kill to tie it, then had a solo block to put the Bronchos ahead before Huck's ace ended it.

Nova led 21-19 in the second set before UCO used a 6-0 run to pull off a stunning win.

Huck had back-to-back kills in that surge, while Garvin knocked down a kill and teamed up with Lari Migliorino for a set-clinching block.

It was close again in the third set, but Wimmer had two kills and Garvin a solo block down the stretch to close out the sweep.

Karp dominated in the win over Trevecca, hitting an incredible .680 with 17 kills in 25 attacks with no errors while adding four assisted blocks. Mikiah Perdue was also unstoppable with seven kills and no miscues in eight attempts for an amazing .875 attack percentage.

Wimmer added five kills and three blocks and Gavin had four kills, Houran finished with 33 assists, six digs and two blocks, with Riley Roberts (nine digs) and Katie Le (eight) leading the defense.

UCO led 22-11 in the first set before the Trojans rallied to get within 24-23, but Karp ended the suspense with a slam dunk at the net.cThe senior star also keyed the second-set win, delivering four kills in a 5-0 run that turned a 17-16 deficit into a 21-17 lead as the Bronchos went up 2-0.
