Minter, Pipkin Lead UCO To Split With Jennies

Bronchos Slip, End Win Streak, And Bounce Back In MIAA Doubleheader

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Jacee Minter delivered a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning and Jordyn Pipkin pitched a two-hit masterpiece to give Central Oklahoma a 3-0 second-game win in gaining a doubleheader split with Central Missouri Friday afternoon.

The No. 8-ranked Bronchos dropped a tough 4-2 decision in the opener to end a 23-game winning streak before bouncing back in the nightcap. UCO, now 31-7 overall and 11-1 in Mid-America Athletics Association play, goes to Jefferson City, Mo. Saturday to take on Lincoln in a noon twinbill.

"Jacee came through with a big-time hit for us and Jordyn was just lights out," head coach Cody White said. "That was a huge win. It was a battle all day and fortunately we were able to come out with a split."

Pipkin overwhelmed the Jennies with the most dominating effort of her two-year UCO career.

The junior right-hander lost her no-hit bid in the seventh and gave up another single in the eighth, but UCM never threatened to score. Pipkin struck out a career-high 11 and didn't walk a batter in improving to 12-3 with her third straight shutout.

The Bronchos were limited to four hits in the first seven innings before finally breaking through in the eighth.

Rylee Lemos singled through the left side to lead off the inning, then Emily Deramus and Terin Ritz drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with no outs. Minter followed with her clutch hit, drilling a two-run double to right-center field and Shayleigh Odom's RBI fielder's choice made it 3-0.

Pipkin gave up a one-out hit in the bottom of the frame before getting a fly out and strikeout to close out the game. UCO finished with six hits, getting two apiece from Lemos and Minter.

The Bronchos took an early lead in the opener when Ritz belted a solo home run – her 15th of the season – in the top of the first and Deramus added another solo shot in the sixth to go up 2-0.

But the Jennies rall
ied in the bottom of the sixth, taking advantage of two UCO errors to score four unearned runs in taking a 4-2 lead and the Bronchos couldn't answer back in their final at bat.
