Bronchos Fall In Game 2 Against Rogers State

Central Oklahoma Pitching Falters, Hillcats Tie Series

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma struggled to find the strike zone and ended up on the wrong side of a 14-7 decision in Game 2 of its three-game MIAA series with Rogers State Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.
 
The Bronchos are now 31-10 on the season following the loss. UCO is 17-9 in the MIAA. RSU improved to 21-17 on the year overall and 12-14 in league play. The series is now tied, 1-1, and Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Brett Pense got the start for UCO on Saturday and the redshirt freshman gave up five runs on four hits and four walks in just two innings of work. Chase Yarger allowed four runs on two hits and three walks in 2/3 of an inning. Diego Dominguez allowed one run on two hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings pitched. And Preston Giltner allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in two innings of work.
 
Brandon Gomez, Peyton Medeiros, and Aaron Hosack all pitched one inning as well. Gomez walked one batter and Hosack did too, also allowing one unearned run to score.
 
The Bronchos did manage six strikeouts on the day with Pense and Gomez recording two each, and Dominguez and Giltner striking out one batter each.
 
Rogers State scored in each of the first three innings and led 9-2 going to the bottom of the third. The Bronchos scored in each of the first four innings though, and trailed just 9-7 going to the fifth inning. RSU got one more in the fifth, then three in the seventh and one last run in the ninth while UCO never scored again after the fourth.
 
Cameron Uselton led UCO, going 3-for-5 with a three-run home run. Kaleb Glass went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs and one run scored. Caden Robertson went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. Orlando Gonzalez also went 2-for-5 with an RBI. And Garrett Long went 1-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
 
Central Oklahoma equaled Rogers State with 10 hits each. UCO struck out seven times to RSU's six, but it was three walks issued by Rogers State to 13 walks issued by the Bronchos that did UCO in on Saturday.
 
Game 3 is Sunday at 1 p.m. with the winner taking the season series.
