Bronchos Batter RSU In Series Opener

Central Oklahoma Takes Game 1 11-0 In Seven-Inning Run-Rule

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma jumped on Rogers State early and kept the firepower coming all evening as the Bronchos opened the MIAA series with an 11-0 run-rule victory Friday evening at Wendell Simmons Field.

Central Oklahoma improved to 31-9 on the season with the win and 17-8 in the MIAA. The Bronchos dispatched Rogers State (20-17, 11-15 MIAA) in one hour, 43 minutes.

"That was a good game by the guys today and a good way to start the series," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "A lot of different guys stepped up today. We had great pitching and it was good to see the offense get going like that."

Central Oklahoma scored twice in the first, once in the second, and three times in the third. Then one more in the fourth and fifth innings, and another three spot in the sixth to get the 11-0 lead. UCO had nine hits in the game and six were for extra bases.

Caden Robertson went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and four RBIs. Shea Morrison and Garrett Long also had home runs, and Long added a double. He went 2-for-3 with the homer and double, two runs scored, and two RBIs. Morrison finished 1-for-3 with the home run. He had a flyout to right caught at the wall.

Kaleb Glass went 2-for-3 from the leadoff spot with two runs scored and an RBI. Glass reached on an error to start the bottom of the first and advanced to third on the play. He later scored on a Carson Carpenter sacrifice fly. Robertson doubled in the first and he also scored on a sacrifice fly from Cameron Uselton to give UCO a 2-0 lead in the first.

Morrison's solo shot on the first pitch of the bottom of the second made it 3-0.

Glass and Carpenter both singled to leadoff of the third before Robertson blasted the first of his two home runs to left center field, giving UCO a 6-0 lead.

Long hit his solo shot in the fourth to make it 7-0, with the junior infielder swinging on the first pitch he saw with two outs in the inning.

Back up with one out in the fifth, Robertson swung on the first pitch and connected on a second home run to make it 8-0.

The bottom of the sixth quickly got out of Rogers State's control. Haden O'Toole and Wyatt Gray both reached on fielding errors before Long's double down the left field line scored O'Toole to make it 9-0.

Glass followed with an RBI single on a play where three RSU fielders watched the ball drop in between them. Gray scored on the play to make it 10-0. Carpenter followed that and he reached on an error by the RSU center fielder, scoring Long to make it 11-0.

Brady Gilmore got the start for the Bronchos and the junior right-hander was electric. Gilmore struck out eight batters, allowed just three hits and a walk, and no runs in the six-inning start. He picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Denton Whiteside came out in the top of the seventh and recorded one out before hitting a batter. Racer Felter followed him out of the bullpen and struck out the next two to end the game.
