No. 11 UCO Completes Dominating Weekend

PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 17) – A relentless offensive attack and stellar pitching powered Central Oklahoma to another doubleheader sweep Sunday on the final day of the MIAA/NSIC Challenge.

The No. 11-ranked Bronchos cruised past Winona State 11-0 and 7-2 to cap a commanding performance in the three-day event. UCO outhit the Warriors 26-10 and were never tested in improving to 22-6.

"It was a good way to end a great weekend," said head coach Cody White, whose team has won 15 in a row. "The girls played well in every phase. We were aggressive at the plate and our pitchers really kept them off-balance."

The Bronchos hit .393 while outscoring Augustana, St. Cloud State and WSU a combined 42-10. UCO returns to MIAA play this week, hosting Missouri Western Friday and Northwest Missouri Saturday.

Emily Deramus and Terin Ritz both went 3-for-5 to pace a 13-hit attack in the first game, while Shayleigh Odom and Rylee Lemos added two hits each.

Ritz also picked up the pitching win, tossing a three-hit complete game. She struck out six and walked one in moving to 11-2 on the season.

Neither team scored until the top of the fourth when Ritz led off with her ninth home run of the season. Odom added an RBI groundout and Tatum Long a run-scoring sacrifice bunt to give UCO a 3-0 advantage.

The Bronchos made it 5-0 in the fifth on Ritz's two-run double, with Deramus and Ritz adding RBI hits in the sixth to up the lead to 7-0.

UCO completed the scoring barrage in the seventh. Long drove in the first run with a double to right-center, Brooke Niver had a pinch-hit RBI single and Deramus belted a two-out, two-run homer to right field.

The Bronchos banged out 13 hits again in the finale, with Jacee Minter's 3-for-4 performance leading the way. Odom, Lemos and Rylee Anglen chipped in two hits apiece.

Lemos got UCO going in the first inning with a leadoff double and scored on Minter's two-out single. Sherri Mason reached on an error, then Odom followed with a two-run single through the right side.

Winona scored once in the top of the second, but the Bronchos got that run back in the bottom of the frame on Lemos' sacrifice fly. UCO went up 5-1 in the fourth on Lemos' lead-off double and another two-out RBI hit by Minter.

Odom made it a 7-1 cushion in the sixth with a two-run single to right field and the Warriors managed just one run in their final try.

Jordyn Pipkin earned the pitching win after allowing five hits and one run in the first 4.2 innings, moving to 9-3. Shelby Beard gave up a run on two hits while striking out four in the final 2.1 innings.
