Football Announces Large Signing Class

Central Oklahoma Added 22 Midyear Transfers And Inked 40 High School Players Wednesday

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma head football coach Adam Dorrel announced Wednesday what might be the largest signing class in school history, with the addition of more than 60 newcomers to the Broncho football program.

Dorrel, in his third year leading the Bronze & Blue, welcomed 22 newcomers to campus last month following the early signing period in December. Wednesday, on National Signing Day, 40 high school football players signed letters of intent to come to the University of Central Oklahoma.

"We feel like we addressed a lot of our needs with this class," Dorrel said. "It is a big class, and that will mean more depth and more competition as we get ready for the 2024 season. There are some really talented young men in both the early signing group and the high schoolers from today. We are looking forward to seeing them on campus very soon.

"I also want to thank some people today that have been so helpful in this process, because it really takes a lot of help," Dorrel continued. "To our coaching staff and support staff, to our administration and all of the support staff, from compliance to admissions and academics, everyone here plays a big part in this and they all need to be recognized."

In Wednesday's high school signings, 36 are from Oklahoma and four are from Texas. Wednesday's group also includes 23 on the defensive side of the ball and 17 on offense.

Dorrel brought in just under two dozen transfers at the midyear signing period, with newcomers from junior college, Division I and Division II joining the Broncho program. That group, which includes 13 offensive and nine defensive additions, is made up of players from nine different states. Texas was the big player in the transfer market with 9 of 22 coming from the state. California has three, Oklahoma, Florida, and Georgia each have two, and Idaho, Iowa, Mississippi, and North Carolina all have one.

Central Oklahoma begins the 2024 season this fall and currently has two open dates on the schedule following some recent decisions made by the MIAA and the NCAA. Central Oklahoma has Week 1 open due to the departure of Lincoln from the MIAA. And now the NCAA has added Week 0 in front of that, giving UCO the opportunity to schedule a non-conference game in one of those two spots.

A complete schedule release will happen later this Spring.
