Bronchos Blister Central Missouri

EDMOND (Feb. 4) – A trio of first-period falls helped give Central Oklahoma a big early lead and the top-ranked Bronchos went on to crush No. 21 Central Missouri 41-11 Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association mismatch.

UCO got quick pins from 141 Dylan Lucas, 149 Dylan Brown and 157 Gabe Johnson in racing to a 27-0 lead and the Bronchos coasted in from there in staying perfect (46-0) against the Mules while improving to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in the league.

"We came out ready to go and got off to a great start," said head coach Todd Steidley after UCO's 19th straight win. "Our guys were pretty focused today. We had a great crowd and everybody was intent on wrestling well.

"It was a good step forward for us. It's getting toward the end of the season and we still have a lot of work to do, but I like the direction we're headed."

UCO had six bonus-point wins on the day, also getting technical falls from 174 Anthony DesVigne and Hvy Shawn Streck along with a major decision from 197 Dalton Abney. The Bronchos picked up a forfeit at 125 and 133 Peter Rolle earned a decision, with UCM's two wins coming against backups.

Lucas got UCO's early pin parade started with a 52-second fall at 141, striking for a quick takedown before collecting his fifth fall of the season. Brown followed suit, needing just 1:32 to finish his match after scoring an early takedown.

Johnson had a pair of takedowns before ending his bout at the 1:37 mark to make it 27-0 and the outcome of the dual was no longer in doubt.

DesVigne had three near-falls and two takedowns in an 18-1 rout, while Streck recorded his eighth technical fall in a 10-0 start behind a six-takedown attack in an 19-4 drubbing.

Abney had a pair of takedowns and a near-fall in a 12-0 shutout in earning UCO's other bonus win.

Rolle had the toughest win of the night, scoring nine unanswered points in overcoming an early 6-1 deficit for a 10-6 victory at 133. The junior gave up two early takedowns in falling behind, but dominated from there with three escapes and a pair of takedowns.

The Bronchos close out the home schedule next Sunday, Feb. 11, with a 2 p.m. contest against Drury. UCO ends the dual season the following weekend with back-to-back road matches at No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State.
