Bronchos Top Riverhawks In Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma battled through a back-and-forth MIAA matchup with rival Northeastern State Saturday, and the Bronchos came out on top with a 74-68 win at the Tahlequah Event Center.

Jaden Wells scored a game-high 26 points to lead the Bronchos while Luke Haasl added 18 points and Danquez Dawsey 17 points, aiding the effort.

Central Oklahoma improved to 19-9 on the season overall and 11-9 in the MIAA. The Bronchos have two games left in the regular season, hosting No. 7 Northwest Missouri next Thursday and Newman next Saturday in the regular season finale.

The 2024 MIAA Basketball Championship is scheduled for March 6-10 in Kansas City. UCO has clinched a spot but seeds will still be determined with next week's final two games.

Saturday, there were 16 lead changes and five more ties, but all of that came in the first 22 minutes of the game. UCO and NSU went back and forth in the second half after a 41-41 tie, then when Dawsey gave UCO a 55-54 lead with 11:25 left, the Bronchos never trailed again.

Jalyn Turner hit a 3-pointer on the next play and UCO never looked back. While the game was never out of reach for the host Riverhawks, UCO led by six down the stretch and ultimately won by the same margin, 74-68.

Central Oklahoma shot 45.0 percent from the floor Saturday, making 27 of 60 shots. The Bronchos made 4 of 16 from behind the arc and 16 of 18 from the free-throw line.

UCO had the three in double figures. Five other Bronchos scored and combined for 13 points. Turner finished with three and Mike Quick Jr. scored four in his return to the floor. Majok Majouk, Caiden Punt, and Matthew Willenborg all scored two points.
