UCO Comes Up Short In Game 2 Battle

Ninth-Ranked Bronchos Drop Series At Third-Ranked Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Central Oklahoma narrowly missed tying its MIAA series at Central Missouri Saturday but fell short 6-5 and now trails 2-0 in the three-game set.

UCO (11-2, 0-2) plays at UCM (11-2, 2-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.

"We responded well today after how the first game went, but we still didn't get it done," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We have to play the full nine innings and we didn't today."

Central Oklahoma had a 1-0 lead early in the game, a 4-2 lead midway through, and a 5-3 lead in the seventh inning. But a late UCM rally stifled the Broncho effort.

UCO scattered eight hits in the game on Saturday, Ty Hammack and Kaleb Glass both had two hits in the game. Justin Santoyo, Orlando Gonzalez, Ty Chapman and Matt Baughn all had one hit.

Central Oklahoma used five pitchers on Saturday that gave up six runs on 13 hits and eight walks. Four of the five recorded one strikeout.

Santoyo scored Hammack in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly to give UCO the 1-0 lead. Glass' RBI single in the top of the fifth inning scored Baughn, and Santoyo scored Glass and Garrett Long two pitches later to give UCO a 4-2 lead.

The Bronchos had a rally going in the top of the seventh. Cameron Uselton's RBI groundout scored Hammack to make it 5-3. UCO had the bases loaded with one out with Uselton at the plate, but didn't get more than the one run.

Central Missouri rallied with a one-out RBI single and back-to-back two-out RBI doubles in the bottom of the seventh to go in front by the final, 6-5.

Santoyo, who hit a double along with Hammack and Gonzalez, led UCO with three RBIs while Glass and Uselton had one each.

Central Oklahoma wraps up the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. UCO will then return home to host Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday in a non-conference game scheduled for 3 p.m. at Wendell Simmons Field in Edmond.
