Bronchos Batter East Central

EDMOND (Feb. 15) – Jacee Minter, Rylee Lemos and Terin Ritz clubbed home runs to power No. 11-ranked Central Oklahoma past East Central 7-1 Thursday afternoon on the first day of the Raising Cane's Festival at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.

Lemos had the big blow with a grand slam, while Ritz had a two-run shot and Minter belted a solo blast. The Bronchos improved to 5-4 with their fourth straight win.

UCO returns Friday to meet Arkansas Tech at 1 p.m., then takes on Missouri S&T at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. The Bronchos end the tournament Sunday against No. 23 Southern Arkansas and Southwestern Oklahoma.

"We came out and took care of business," head coach Cody White said. "We swung the bats pretty well and jumped on them early, which is always a plus. It was a good start to the weekend."

Eight of UCO's nine starters had a hit, with Minter collecting two.

The senior slugger led off the second with her third homer of the season, mashing a full-count pitch to straightaway center field to ignite a five-run inning.

Shayleigh Odom drove a one-out double down the left field line, Tatum Long walked and Rylee Anglen had a two-out infield single to load the bases for Lemos. The sophomore standout promptly cleared them, ripping a line-drive rocket over the right field wall for her second homer of the year.

The Bronchos made it 7-0 in the third with another long ball. McKenna Johnson opened the inning with a single to right-center and Ritz  hit a towering one-out drive to center field for her third homer of the season.

Ritz started in the pitching circle and gave up one hit in the first three innings. Freshman Shelby Beard earned her first career win with three innings of one-hit relief, while Emmy Guthrie threw the final inning.
