Bronchos Fall To Arkansas Tech

EDMOND (Feb. 16) – Nothing went right for Central Oklahoma Friday afternoon on the second day of the Raising Cane's Festival.

The No. 11-ranked Bronchos committed five errors – after having three in the first nine games of the season – and were outhit 11-0 in a stunning 9-0 run-rule loss to Arkansas Tech.

UCO had a four-game winning streak snapped in falling to 5-5. The Bronchos return to Gerry Pinkston Stadium Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. contest against Missouri S&T at 3:30 p.m. end the tournament Sunday against No. 23 Southern Arkansas and Southwestern Oklahoma.

"We weren't ready to play and it showed," head coach Cody White said. "Arkansas Tech has a good team and they obviously outplayed us in every phase of the game, mentally and physically.

"Hopefully our team learned that we're not good enough to just show up and expect to win."

The Golden Suns scored once in the top of the first and then took control in the second, pushing across four unearned runs to go ahead 5-0. Three UCO pitchers gave up 11 hits, though only three of ATU's nine runs were earned.

The Bronchos managed just four baserunners, all coming via walks. UCO's only scoring chance came in the fourth when McKenna Johnson and Terin Ritz both walked, but ATU's left fielder made a sliding catch on Shayleigh Odom's low liner for the final out.
