Bonus-point Parade Leads UCO Past Panthers

EDMOND (Feb. 11) – Shawn Streck put on a lightning-fast takedown clinic to score a 42-second technical fall in the final match to cap Central Oklahoma's 50-3 Senior Day shellacking of Drury Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The top-ranked Bronchos needed just 35 minutes to dispose of the Panthers in the home finale, earning bonus points in all nine of their wins. Only three matches made it past the first period.

Streck's match was the quickest. The defending national champion tallied an incredible seven takedowns in those 42 seconds for a 21-6 rout to register his ninth technical fall in an 11-0 start, just two off the single-season school record.

UCO got first-period falls from 149 Dylan Brown, 165 Hunter Jump and 184 Garrett Wells, while 141 Dylan Lucas, 157 Bam West and 174 Anthony DesVigne scored technical falls – with Lucas needing just 1:36 for his. The Bronchos also picked up two forfeits.

"I thought our guys wrestled well," head coach Todd Steidley said. "We were really aggressive and everybody was pushing to score points. That's what you want to see, especially at this point of the season.

"We've been grinding pretty hard since the first of January and have made a lot of progress. There's still a long ways to go, but I like the direction we're headed."

UCO improved to 13-0 with its 20th straight win and the 21st in a row at home.

Drury's lone win came at 125 in the only match that went the distance. Garrett Steidley was nursing a 1-0 lead late in the match and shot in on a single leg, but Caden Howard was able to turn the tide with a takedown and near-fall in the final five seconds for a 7-1 victory.

It was all UCO after that.

Guy Clevenger picked up a forfeit at 133, then the fourth-ranked Lucas made short work of Paul Pollard. Lucas had three takedowns and two near-falls to end it at the 1:36 mark with a 17-2 cushion.

Brown zipped to a quick 7-0 lead before getting his fall just 1:51 into the match and West collected three takedowns and two near-falls in a 17-1 drubbing that ended early in the second period.

Jump needed just 2:28 to score his fall and DesVigne struck for the last of his six takedowns early in the third period to finish off a 20-3 romp. Wells turned an early takedown into his team-leading seventh fall at the 2:22 mark.

Two-time national champion Dalton Abney picked up a forfeit in his final home match before Streck put an exclamation point on the day with his overwhelming effort.

The Bronchos recognized five seniors before the dual – Abney, DesVigne, Streck, Braden Morgan and Peter Rolle.

UCO finishes the regular season next week with back-to-back MIAA matches at No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney and Fort Hays State. The Bronchos will then have two weeks to prepare for the NCAA Division II Regional IV Tournament, which is set for March 2 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The top-three finishers from each weight at the regional qualify for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships that will be held March 15-16 in Wichita, Kan.
