Walk-off Win Gives UCO Saturday Sweep

EDMOND (Feb. 10) – Clutch hitting by a pair of Rylees lifted Central Oklahoma to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Maryville that gave the Bronchos a two-game sweep on the final day of the UCO/OC Festival Saturday afternoon at Gerry Pinkston Stadium.

Rylee Anglen led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double and Rylee Lemos followed with another for the game-winner over the Saints after UCO had opened the day with a 12-1 drubbing of Southern Nazarene.

It was the third straight win for the Bronchos, who evened their record at 4-4.

"Those were two big-time hits," head coach Cody White said of the final-inning heroics by Anglen and Lemos. "Those two weren't scared of the moment. They stepped up and delivered when we needed them.

"Our pitching and defense was solid all day and we came out with two good wins. We took advantage of our scoring chances in the first game and didn't do as good a job of that against Maryville, but we found a way at the end."

The Bronchos trailed Maryville 1-0 headed to the bottom of the fourth and had managed only one hit to that point, but it took just one swing to tie it.

Senior slugger Jacee Minter supplied that, smashing a massive home run to straightaway center field into the teeth of a strong North wind to make it 1-1. UCO had a couple of chances to take the lead after that, but couldn't capitalize and it remained deadlocked until the seventh.

Anglen gave the Bronchos the spark they needed with her lead-off double. The speedy sophomore slid in just ahead of the tag after blooping a shot to left-center field and raced home with the winning run when Lemos rocketed the first pitch she saw over the center fielder's head.

Lemos had three of UCO's seven hits to pace the offense, while Jordyn Pipkin had an outstanding performance in the pitching circle. The junior right-hander gave up just four hits and two walks in a complete-game outing in evening her record at 2-2.

UCO took control early against the Crimson Storm with four runs in the bottom of the first and the Bronchos equaled that in each of the next two innings to go ahead 12-0.

Terin Ritz's run-scoring double was one of just two hits in the first. Shayleigh Odom added an RBI groundout and UCO also scored on an error and a wild pitch.

It was more of the same in a four-run second. Emily Deramus ripped an RBI double down the left field line and Ritz had a run-scoring single through the right side, with Johnson's RBI groundout and an error making it 8-0.

The Bronchos strung together four hits in another four-run outburst in the third and all four runs came with two outs.  Minter had the big hit with a two-run double down the left field line, while Odom and Ritz added RBI hits.

SNU scored its lone run in the fourth.

Ritz went 3-for-3 with three RBI to lead UCO's eight-hit attack and also picked up the pitching win. The junior right-hander gave up two hits in the first three innings before Kaylee Bradley came in to throw the final two frames.

The Bronchos stay home next week, hosting five games in the Raising Cane's Festival that runs Thursday-Sunday.
