Bronchos Lost MIAA Game With Missouri Southern

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma had a rough overtime period it cost the Bronchos an MIAA contest with Missouri Southern Sunday afternoon, when UCO lost 82-74 at Hamilton Field House.

The game went five extra minutes after the two squads duked it out to a 68-68 tie after 40 minutes of play. Unfortunately for the Bronchos, overtime included 1-for-8 shooting by the hosts and a lights-out 100 percent by MSSU as the guests pulled away 14-6 in the bonus frame.

"Sometimes the game just flips that way," UCO head men's coach Bob Hoffman said. "That was the worst time for it to happen, but we couldn't make a shot and they couldn't miss. They didn't. It's tough to lose like that, but you need to put it behind you get ready for the next one."

Central Oklahoma is 4-4 this season following Sunday's loss to Missouri Southern. The Bronchos are 0-2 in league play after opening the conference schedule with losses to Pittsburg State and MSSU this week in Edmond.

Sunday, Central Oklahoma started off hot. The Bronchos opened the game with an 11-0 run that included Parker Hannah conjuring a 4-point play with a 3-pointer and-1 to start the game. He had a steal and a fastbreak dunk to make it 6-0 two and a half minutes into the action.

JV Seat added a 3-point play with a jumper and a foul, and then Seat added another layup to give UCO the 11-0 lead.

That would be UCO's largest lead of the game though. Missouri Southern answered with a 10-1 run over the next three minutes and took its first lead, 19-18, nine minutes into the half.

There were three more lead changes and a hotly contested first half that ended up with UCO taking a 38-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Central Oklahoma had a six-point lead on three different occasions in the second half before Missouri Southern finally got back in front with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Missouri Southern built a six-point lead of its own with just under four minutes left, but Seat hit a 3-pointer that gave the Bronchos a 68-66 lead with 1:42 left in the second half.

Southern got the final two points and the Bronchos missed on multiple chances to win the game.

In overtime, an 8-2 start for the Lions set the tone. UCO managed two free-throws and a turnover in the first two minutes. Central made its only basket in the extra period with 47 seconds left when Luke Haasl put in a layup.

Jordan Thompson led Central Oklahoma with 19 points and had four rebounds and four assists. The guard was 5-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-6 from three while shooting 6-for-8 at the free-throw line.

Hannah and Seat both scored 16 points on Sunday. Hannah was 5-for-9 from the floor, 3-for-6 from deep, and 3-for-4 at the line. He added three rebounds and three steals. Seat was 6-for-13 from the floor with one 3-pointer and he also went 3-for-4 at the line. Seat added two boards, one assist, and one steal.

UCO is off next week and will travel to San Antonio, Texas for the River City Classic Dec. 17-18. The Bronchos play Colorado Mesa and St. Edward's as part of the 10-team festival.
