Bronchos Stumble In San Antonio

Central Oklahoma Outpaced By Colorado Mesa In River City Holiday Classic

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Central Oklahoma lost its third straight game Tuesday as part of the River City Holiday Classic, falling to Colorado Mesa 77-71 in the first of two games in the festival.
 
UCO had a 65-62 lead with 4:42 left in the game, but after Mesa went in front, 66-65 with 3:52 remaining, the Mavericks never trailed again. CMU led by as many as eight down the stretch.
 
Central Oklahoma kept Mesa at 46.6 percent from the floor and a tough 10.0 percent from behind the arc. The Bronchos also forced 16 turnovers in the game. But UCO shot 37.9 percent from the floor on Tuesday, making just 25 percent of its 3-point attempts. The Bronchos were 25-for-66 overall, 6-for-24 from behind the arc, and added 15 points on free-throws on 21 tries.
 
 Jacobi Sebock (17), Luke Haasl (16) and Israel Hart (14) led the way for Central Oklahoma. Jordan Thompson and JV Seat both scored nine points each. Parker Hannah, Jarreth Ingram, and Ben Averitt each scored two points to give UCO six points off the bench in the game.
 
Sebock shot 7-for-14 from the floor and added six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and two blocks. Haasl was 6-for-8 from the floor with a team-high four made free-throws. He had a team-high eight rebounds to go with three blocked shots.
 
Haasl's three rejections give him 101 for his career. He became the fifth player in school history to reach 100 career blocks Tuesday night. Haasl needs just one more to move into fourth place on the school leaderboard.
 
Hart finished with 14 points on 5 of 16 shooting. He added seven assists and five rebounds to go with a pair of steals. Thompson added four assists and Seat three to go with a pair of rebounds.
 
Central Oklahoma led 6-0 and soon after 11-2 in a first half mostly dominated. The Bronchos led for 18:23 of the opening 20 minutes and held an 11-point lead early. But CMU tied it 30-30 with 58 seconds left and took a 32-30 lead with a jump shot at :02 left in the half.
 
Mesa led by as many as seven points before a rally by UCO tied the game, 54-54, midway through the half. There were two more lead changes before UCO took a 63-62 lead. The Bronchos pushed it to 65-62 before Mesa ran away in the end.
 
Central Oklahoma returns to the court for the second day of the 10-team River City Holiday Classic. The Bronchos take on St. Edward's Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Hilltoppers from Austin, Texas lost 87-67 to No. 2 Washburn on Tuesday.
