No. 2 UCO Rolls To 44-9 Rout For 26th Straight Win

WICHITA, Kan. – No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma unleashed a bonus blitz on Newman Friday night at Fugate Gymnasium, collecting four falls and four technical falls in a 44-9 thrashing.

All four falls came in the first period and the four technical falls came by a combined 79-12 margin as the Bronchos improved to 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in the MIAA with their 26th straight win. It was also UCO's 23rd consecutive league victory.

"We wrestled pretty well overall," head coach Todd Steidley said. "I was anxious to see how we would look after having not competed in two weeks, but the guys came out ready to go and they got after it pretty good."

The Bronchos got falls from 133 Eli Kirk, 149 Dylan Brown, 174 Zane Colemand and 197 Emmanuel Skillings, while 125 Studd Morris, 141 Josh Taylor, 157 Gabe Johnson and 184 Garrett Wells collected easy technical falls. Newman got bonus wins at 165 and heavyweight.

Brown made his season debut and the third-ranked senior needed just 1:16 in registering the fastest fall of the night. Skillings took 1:49 for his first pin of the season, Kirk recorded his fifth fall in 2:16 and Coleman took 2:24 for his fifth pin.

Morris, Taylor, Johnson and Wells all stayed unbeaten with easy wins.

Morris opened the night with a 24-3 rout behind a six-takedown attack in improving to 7-0, while Taylor had three takedowns and two near-falls in a 17-2 first-period romp in moving to 12-0.

Johnson racked up six takedowns in a 21-5 demolition, while Wells had three takedowns and two near-falls in a 17-2 runaway as both improved to 4-0.

It was the last dual of 2024 for Central, which ends the first semester schedule Dec. 14-15 at the prestigious Midwest Classic in Indianapolis, Ind.
