Central Slips Late, Falls To PSU

UCO Lost 79-76 To Pittsburg State In the First MIAA Game of the Season For the Bronchos

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma let a lead get away in the final minutes before falling 79-76 to Pittsburg State Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House in MIAA play.
 
UCO is 4-3 on the season and now 0-1 in league play following the first conference game of the season. Pitt State is 5-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
 
Wednesday night, Central Oklahoma 29:52 to Pittsburg State's 6:21. There were 11 total lead changes and the game was tied six times.
 
UCO led by nine points with nine minutes to play, and held off a few one-point leads down the stretch. Pitt State retook the lead 75-74 with 2:37 left, then UCO was back in front 76-75 when JV Seat made a steal and took it the length of the floor for a layup with 1:51 left to play.
 
Unfortunately for Central Oklahoma, that was the last bucket. Pitt State got the lead for good with two free-throws on the next possession. PSU led 77-76 with 1:35 to play.
 
Central missed a jumper down the floor, and Pitt responded with a dunk with 57 seconds left to make it the final 79-76.
 
Seat missed a charging layup, but the Bronchos got another stop and had a chance to tie the game twice in the 14 seconds. After a timeout, Jordan Thompson and Israel Hart both missed 3-pointers in the final six seconds and couldn't force the extra period.
 
Seat led UCO with 20 points on Wednesday night. The junior guard was 6-for-12 from the field, 2-for-3 from behind the arc, and 6-for-6 from the free-throw line. He added two steals and two rebounds.
 
Central Oklahoma shot a season-low 33.8 percent from the floor, making 24 of 71 shots on the night. The Bronchos were just 6-for-20 from behind the arc.
 
UCO stayed in the game with 26 trips to the free-throw line, where the Bronchos added 22 points from its makes 73.2 percent of time.
 
Thompson finished with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He was 5-for-17 from the floor, 1-for-4 from deep, and 6-for-7 at the line.
 
Hart scored 13 points on 5 of 18 shooting, making one 3-pointer on six tries. He was 2-for-3 from the free-throw line.
 
Luke Haasl also finished with 10 points, two rebounds, and two steals. Jacobi Sebock finished with eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
 
Parker Hannah (five), Matthew Willenborg (two) and Jarreth Ingram (one) added to the score.
 
Seat, Thompson, Haasl, Sebock, Hannah, and Ingram all had two steals each.
 
Central Oklahoma opens MIAA play with two home games. The Bronchos will welcome Missouri Southern to Hamilton Field House on Sunday afternoon.
