UCO Smacks 'Cats In Edmond

Central Oklahoma Beat Rogers State 83-65 Sunday To Close Out The Calendar Year With A Win

EDMOND – A pair of quick-spurt runs put Central Oklahoma in command of its final contest of the calendar year Sunday at Hamilton Field House.

UCO 83, Rogers State 65.

The game featured six lead changes and seven ties but almost all of that happened in the first 25 minutes. Central Oklahoma trailed by five at halftime, 36-31, and though UCO tied the game, 40-40, the Bronchos trailed again when Rogers State took a 50-45 lead with 13:32 left in the second half.

That's when the Bronchos took off running.

Parker Hannah started and finished a 7-0 run with a layup and a 3-pointer on either side of two JV Seat free-throws. His 3-pointer gave the Bronchos a 52-50 lead. The Bronchos never trailed again.

Rogers tied it again, 52-52, but a 9-0 run followed for the Bronchos. Matthew Willenborg made the front end of a 1-and-1, then Luke Haasl slammed home a dunk. Seat then scored a driving layup before Hannah hit another 3-pointer, and Seat finished off the run with a free-throw to give UCO a 61-52 lead.

The 16-2 run that stretched six minutes turned a 5-point deficit into the 9-point lead.

The Bronchos earned their biggest lead of the game when Israel Hart knocked down a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left. That gave UCO its final, 83-65.

Hart led Central Oklahoma in scoring with 20 points. It's the sixth time in 11 games this season Hart has scored at least 20 for the Bronchos. On Sunday, the Midwest City native went 6-for-9 from the floor, 6-for-8 from behind the 3-point line, and 2-for-2 at the free-throw line. His 3-pointers are a season-high. He also had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Seat finished with 16 points on 3 of 7 shooting. He went 9-for-11 at the free-throw line. Hannah gave UCO three in double figures with a dozen points. He went 4-for-6 from the floor and 3-for-5 from behind the 3-point line. Hannah added one free-throw, one rebound, and one steal while dishing out four assists.

Jordan Thompson made it four in double figures with 11 points, six assists, three rebounds, and three steals.

Haasl had eight points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots before fouling out. Jacobi Sebock scored eight points to go with 10 rebounds before he fouled out.

Ben Averitt scored a season-high five points in his best performance since 2022-23 after missing last year with a knee injury. Willenborg chipped in three points.

Central Oklahoma shot 48.2 percent from the floor on Sunday, making 27 of 56 total shots. The Bronchos were 10-for-22 from behind the 3-point line (45.5 percent), and 19-for-28 at the free-throw line (67.9 pct.).

While Rogers held as much as an eight-point lead in the first half, 36-28, UCO only led by as much as two points while the teams traded blows for the first 20 minutes. Hart hit one of his 3-pointers at the halftime buzzer to send UCO into the locker room down just five.

Central Oklahoma is 6-5 this season and now 1-2 in the MIAA following Sunday's win. The Bronchos will return to the court in 2025 with a Jan. 2 matchup against Williams Baptist (Ark.). UCO has 16 MIAA contests on tap for the new year beginning with Jan. 4 against Newman.
