Bronchos Cruise Past Newman

No. 11 UCO Reaches The 25-win Mark with Sweep of Jets

NEWMAN, Kan. – No. 11-ranked Central Oklahoma had no trouble with Newman Saturday afternoon in the final road match of the regular season.

The Bronchos cruised to a 25-18, 25-21, 25-11 rout for their 17th sweep of the season, improving to 25-2 overall and 12-2 in the MIAA. UCO reached the 25-win mark for the 14th time in school history, including the seventh under 12th-year head coach Edgar Miraku.

"We took care of business," said Miraku, who has a stellar 294-92 career record with the Bronchos. "We did some good things both offensively and defensively. Any win on the road in this conference is good so we're happy and are looking forward to being back home."

UCO finishes the regular season at home next weekend, hosting Washburn at 6 p.m. Friday and Emporia State at 5 p.m. Saturday on Senior Night.

Addison Wimmer paced a balanced attack with 13 kills while adding two blocks and a service aces. Mikiah Perdue hit .417 with seven kills and two errors in 12 attacks to go with two blocks.

Lari Migliorino downed six kills in 11 attempts with one miscue in hitting .455 to go along with two service aces and two blocks. Sawyer Franz chipped in six kills, with Jenna Karp and Brynn Egger adding three apiece.

Lindsey Houran passed out 32 assists in directing the offensive assault. Katie Le had 18 digs and Riley Roberts 13 to lead the defense.

The Bronchos trailed 5-3 in the opening set before taking control with an 11-2 run in taking a 14-7 lead. Wimmer had three kills and Egger two in that spurt and UCO coasted in from there.

Central never trailed in the second set, jumping on top 4-1 behind a Perdue kill and Wimmer ace. It was 16-6 after back-to-back Perdue kills and the Bronchos stave off a mild Newman rally down the stretch to close it out.

The Jets tried to stay alive in the third set, taking an early 5-3 lead. It was all UCO after that, with Franz putting down three straight kills to ignite a devasting 16-2 run.

Wimmer slammed down four kills and added a solo block, while Migliorino had two aces, a kill and a block in that surge to put the Bronchos ahead 19-7 and it was all over.
