No 10 Bronchos Sweep Past No. 24 Washburn

UCO Earns 18th Sweep of the Season With Dominating Performance

EDMOND – Katie Le's acrobatic digs led Central Oklahoma's back row defense while Mikaela Garvin and Lari Migliorino controlled things at the net in guiding the No. 10-ranked Bronchos to a sweep of No. 24 Washburn Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

Le dug up 25 attacks, Garvin had eight blocks and Migliorino seven as UCO dumped the Ichabods 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 in the MIAA showdown. The Bronchos improved to 26-2 overall and 13-2 in the league heading into Saturday's regular season finale against Emporia State.

"We came out really ready to play tonight," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Our defense was really good and that was the key. It was a big win for us against a tough opponent."

Addison Wimmer paced UCO's offense, hitting .478 with 12 kills and just one error in 23 attacks. Garvin hit .381 with 11 kills to go along with her blocks, while Sydney Huck added nine kills and 13 digs.

Migliorino and Jenna Karp chipped in six kills apiece. The Bronchos also got 38 assists, eight digs and three service aces from setter supreme Lindsey Houran.

Central never trailed in the first set to take quick control of the match. Migliorino, Wimmer and Garvin all knocked down kills and Houran served up an ace as the Bronchos jumped on top 4-0, with a Garvin block making it 6-1.

Washburn rallied to get within one point on several occasions, the final time at 17-16. It was all UCO after that, with Karp and Wimmer collecting two kills apiece during an 8-0 run that ended it.

The Bronchos trailed 7-5 in the second set before scoring four unanswered points to surge in front for good. A WU error started that run and Riley Roberts followed with an ace before back-to-back kills by Huck and Karp put UCO on top 9-7.

Central was nursing a one-point lead at 14-13 when a 5-0 run put it away. Garvin had two kills during that spurt to make it 19-13 and the Bronchos coasted in from there.

UCO broke away from a 5-5 tie in the third set to take a commanding lead before holding off the Ichabods down the stretch.

Mikaela and Migliorino teamed up to block four Washburn shots while Houran had consecutive aces during a 8-0 run that turned a precarious 10-9 lead into an 18-9 cushion and it was 21-10 after a Kaitlyn Parrott ace.

Washburn came back to within 23-21, but Karp's shot down the middle made it 24-21 and Wimmer followed an Ichabod point with her final kill of the night to end the match.
