Bronchos Rout Missouri Southern

No. 13 UCO Scores 16th Sweep of the Season

EDMOND – No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma used a balanced offensive attack to subdue MIAA rival Missouri Southern Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos secured their 16th sweep of the season with a 25-13, 25-21, 25-18 rout, improving to 23-2 overall and 10-2 in conference play. UCO is second in the league standings with four matches left in the regular season.

"It wasn't very pretty, but we did what we needed to do," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team had a .245 attack percentage the day after hitting .367 in a romp over Central Missouri. "We protected our home court and that's the main thing. We just have to keep working hard at getting better every day."

Jenna Karp and Addison Wimmer led the Bronchos with nine kills apiece, while Sydney Huck added seven, Mikaela Garvin six and Lari Migliorino four. Karp hit .353 and added two blocks (one solo, one assisted).

Katie Le was a force defensively, digging up 21 MSSU attacks. The senior libero moved into eighth place on UCO's career digs list with 1,499 and needs just 19 more to move up to sixth. Lindsey Houran handed out 29 assists along with making nine digs and two service aces.

The first set was close in the early going and was tied at 9-all when Wimmer had a kill and Houran drilled two aces in a 4-0 run that put the Bronchos on top to stay. Huck and Karp had three kills each the rest of the way as UCO pulled steadily away.

The pesky Lions had a series of two- and three-point leads in the second set before Central finally pulled ahead for good at 15-14 on a Mikaela dart. It was a 21-16 lead after Riley Roberts' ace, but MSSU got within two at 23-21, but an error and Wimmer kill ended it.

UCO had no issues in the third set, grabbing a quick 3-0 lead on behind a pair of errors and a Huck kill. It was 6-2 after Wimmer and Migliorino teamed up for a block and the Bronchos weren't tested the rest of the way.

Central Oklahoma makes its final regular season road trip next weekend, going to Pittsburg State and Newman Friday and Saturday. The Bronchos then finish at home against Washburn (Nov. 15) and Emporia State (Nov. 16).
