UCO Takes The Sting Out of The Hornets

No. 10 Bronchos End Regular Season With Sweep of Emporia State

EDMOND – No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma had no trouble disposing of Emporia State in Saturday's regular season finale at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos cruised to a 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 rout to finish 27-2 on the season and 14-2 in MIAA play with their seventh straight win. UCO heads to St. Joseph, Mo. next weekend for the MIAA Tournament, with first-round pairings to be announced later Saturday.

"It was great to send our seniors off with a win like that," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team recognized five seniors before the match. "I'm really proud of this group for the work they've put in this season. We had a great regular season and now it's time to get focused on what's still in front of us."

All five seniors made their mark in their final home appearance.

Addison Wimmer blasted down a team-high 12 kills to go along with 15 digs and two assisted blocks, while Jenna Karp had 11 kills and two assisted blocks. Mikaela Garvin added four kills, Brynn Egger collected two kills and an assisted block and Katie Le made 18 digs in moving into fifth place on UCO's career list with 1,581.

Juniors Sydney Huck, Lari Migliorino and Lindsey Houran also made a big impact. Huck hit .350 with eight kills and four blocks, Migliorino had four kills and six blocks and Houran handed out 36 assists.

The opening set was a back-and-forth battle until the Bronchos scored six unanswered points to turn a 14-13 deficit into a 19-14 lead. Karp started that run with a slam dunk at the net, with Migliorino and Wimmer teaming up for a block to finish it.

Huck's kill on set point finished it off and UCO was off and running.

The Bronchos never trailed in the second set, though it was tied at 7-7. An ESU error put Central ahead, Wimmer and Garvin followed with back-to-back kills and the Hornets had no answer the rest of the way.

Emporia scored the first point of the third set, but Huck had a solo block, an assisted block and a kill during a 4-0 run that put UCO in quick control. The lead grew to 11-2 on consecutive Karp kills and the Bronchos coasted in from there.
