Bronchos Roll Over UAFS

No. 10 UCO Avenges Earlier Loss With Road Sweep

FORT SMITH, Ark. – No. 10-ranked Central Oklahoma avenged a home loss to MIAA rival Arkansas-Fort Smith with a road sweep Saturday afternoon.

Addison Wimmer hit .463 with 20 kills and one error in 41 attacks to lead the Bronchos, who overwhelmed the Lady Lions 25-20, 25-20, 25-11 in making up for a stunning four-set loss Wednesday in Edmond.

UCO improved to 21-2 on the season and 8-2 in the conference with its 13th sweep of the season.

"It was a good bounce-back win for us," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We were disappointed with how we played the other day, so I'm proud of the way we responded today."

Jenna Karp backed up Wimmer with 12 kills in 22 attempts with two miscues in hitting .455 while adding three assisted blocks. Mikaela Garvin chipped in eight kills and five blocks, with Sydney Huck adding six kills and eight digs.

Lindsey Houran once again spearheaded the offensive attack with 39 assists. Katie Le had 19 digs to pace the back-row defense.

The Bronchos trailed 11-9 in the first set before ripping off eight unanswered points in taking control. Garvin had three kills and teamed up with Karp for a block to key that surge and UCO coasted in from there.

Central never trailed in the second set, jumping on top 5-1 behind three Karp kills and a Huck service ace. It was 10-3 after a Wimmer/Mikiah Perdue block and the Bronchos cruised in.

It was all Bronchos in the third set. Wimmer had three kills and teamed with Perdue for a block in a 6-1 that made it 13-6 and UCO went on to close out the sweep.

The Bronchos are back home next weekend to host Central Missouri and Missouri Southern.
