Bronchos Fall At Home Against Rogers State

Central Oklahoma Drops Home Game 81-76 To In-State Rival

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped a league contest with Rogers State Saturday afternoon with the Bronchos falling 81-76 at Hamilton Field House.

Central Oklahoma is now 14-4 overall and 6-4 in the MIAA. Rogers State improved to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in league play.

"We let them get too much momentum in the second half," UCO head men's basketball coach Bob Hoffman said. "We made another run late and we had our chances, but we didn't get it done. We need to put this one behind us and get ready for the next one."

UCO led 40-38 at halftime, but Rogers State used an 11-3 run to start the second half. Central led 43-42 after Danquez Dawsey hit a 3-pointer with 18:20 to play in the second half. But that big run still had 7-0 to the guests following and UCO never led again.

RSU led by as many as 13 in the second half, going up 60-47 with 12:13 to play.

The Bronchos made a late run, getting back to within three points late in the half. After two free-throws by Dawsey, Mike Quick Jr. got a steal and an emphatic slam to make it 73-70 with 2:53 to play. But RSU had an answer. Dawsey made it 77-74 with 36 seconds left, but again RSU kept the Bronchos at bay.

Central Oklahoma shot 42.9 percent from the floor on Saturday, making 24 of 56 total shots. The Bronchos were 9-for-24 from behind the 3-point line and 19-for-22 from the free-throw line.

Almost all points came from Dawsey, who scored a game-high 25, Jaden Wells, who scored 20, and Quick Jr., who put up 19 off the bench.

Jalyn Turner added eight points, Evan Barber and Majok Majouk both scored two points.

Dawsey finished with 25 points, five assists, four rebounds and two steals. He went 8-for-16 from the floor, 1-for-3 from behind the 3-point line, and a perfect 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Wells went 6-for-13 from the floor, 3-for-8 from behind the arc, and 5-for-6 from the line. He also had four rebounds, two steals, one assist and one blocked shot.

Quick Jr. scored 19 points, making 6 of 10 shots. He went 3-for-5 from behind the 3-point line and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line.

Central Oklahoma hits the road next week and has two big games. The Bronchos visit Northwest Missouri Thursday night and Missouri Western Saturday. NWMSU is 11-4 overall and 7-2 in the MIAA, and ranked No. 14 in the country. MWSU, which beat Northwest on Saturday, is 12-3 overall and 6-3 in league play.

UCO also visits Newman the following weekend and returns home again February 1.
