DENTON, Texas (Sept. 8) – Addison Wimmer had 13 kills as Central Oklahoma opened play in the Denton Volleyfest with a rout of Arkansas-Monticello Friday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena.
Wimmer hit a sizzling .429 in the match with 13 kills and just one error in 28 attacks during a 25-13, 25-16, 25-17 sweep. The Bronchos, now 5-1 on the young season, return at 7 p.m. Friday to take on host Texas Woman's before playing two more matches Saturday.
"Addison played well and it was a good way to start the weekend," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We played okay and got to use a lot of players, which is always a plus."
Wimmer added eight digs and a pair of blocks during the mismatch and was the only player to have more than four kills. Mallorie Koehn and Mikiah Perdue had four kills apiece, while Brynn Egger and Hannah Barry added three each.
Lindsey Houran handed out 23 assists directing the offense to go along with 12 digs and Jaedynn Evans chipped in 11 digs.
UCO fell behind 6-2 in the opening set, but bounced back with a four-point run to tie it. The teams were deadlocked again at eight, nine and 10 before the Bronchos scored six straight points to grab a 16-10 lead and take control.
Koehn and Evans had two service aces apiece and Wimmer knocked down two kills the rest of the way as UCO polished off the lopsided win.
Wimmer had a kill and ace to help stake the Bronchos to a quick 5-1 lead in the second set. It was still close at 13-10, but UCO got two kills from Wimmer and an ace from Houran in another six-point run to take command.
That made it 19-10 and Central cruised in from there to close out the set.
The Bronchos were up 7-5 in the third set before using a five-point spurt to open up a comfortable 12-5 lead. Barry had back-to-back kills, Houran added a kill and Katie Le served up an ace in that run.
Wimmer smacked down two kills and added a block in pushing the lead to 17-7 and UCO went on to finish off the sweep.
