UCO Plays UCM To Scoreless Draw

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma played No. 10 Central Missouri to a scoreless draw Friday night in MIAA play at Tom Thompson Field.

UCO, now 3-2-4 on the season, is 0-0-2 in league play after its second consecutive draw. Central Missouri is 6-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the MIAA.

"We had our chances and we didn't convert, but we will take a draw against a really good team," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "They really came after us in the first 20 minutes and honestly we're lucky it didn't hurt us. But we still had our chances in the end."

Central Missouri outshot Central Oklahoma 9-3 in the first half, with most of those shots coming in the first 30 minutes. But the Bronchos, led by Caroline Faulkner in goal, withstood the blitz and gave themselves a chance.

The Bronchos didn't exactly flip the script in the second half, but it was a very different half. Central Oklahoma outshot Central Missouri 5-2 in the second 45 minute frame, and put two shots on goal.

Amaya Grace's laser of a shot from around 30 yards out was the best look UCO had at pulling in front of the guests. Grace, a fifth-year senior, took a shot in the 70th minute that the UCM goalkeeper saved. The rebound looked like another opportunity for the Bronchos, but UCO couldn't find a clean look and didn't get the chance.

Emily Tincher, a fourth-year junior, got a good look in the 84th minute but UCM's keeper made another save and the Bronchos never got another chance.

UCM found itself with a corner in the dying minute, but the Broncho defense buckled down again and made the stop with 10 seconds left in the game to preserve the draw.

Faulkner finished the day with 90 minutes played and four saves. She faced 11 total shots and picked up her first shutout of the season and the fourth of her career. Faulkner is also now up to 88 career saves, which ranks 10th on Central Oklahoma's career list.

UCO is back home this weekend. The Bronchos host Missouri Southern Sunday at 1 p.m. before hitting the road next week with a trip to Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State.
