UCO Goes 4-for-4 In Texas

Central Oklahoma Beats Eastern New Mexico To Wrap Up 4-0 Weekend

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Central Oklahoma's 3-0 sweep of Eastern New Mexico capped off a 4-0 weekend to open the 2023 season for the Bronchos.

UCO won 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 over the Greyhounds to improve to 4-0. The Bronchos also beat West Alabama and Midwestern State on Friday before taking down Southwestern Oklahoma State and ENMU Saturday.

"It's good to get the season started and see where we stand against live competition," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "Now we have a better idea of some things we need to work on moving forward. We did good this weekend, it's good to come home with four wins, but we do need to work on some things to keep getting better."

Central Oklahoma used a balanced effort on offense Saturday night against Eastern New Mexico. Sydney Huck led the team with nine kills while Jenna Karp had eight. Addison Wimmer added seven kills and Lari Migliorino and Lindsey Houran both had five kills.

Houran paved the way with 28 assists and a well-rounded defensive effort helped the Bronchos. Wimmer's 10 digs were a team-high and 10 different Bronchos had at least one dig. Six Central players had at least five digs.

UCO also got a boost at the net with seven team blocks. Migliorino had three block-assists as did Mikiah Perdue. Karp added one solo and three block-assists.

Central Oklahoma had to work for it in the first set, trailing for the first half of the frame. But when UCO took a 14-13 lead, that was it. The Bronchos outscored ENMU 12-5 down the stretch to get a 1-0 lead in the match. Huck had five first-set kills to lead the way.

There were only two lead changes in the second set as UCO settled in. The Bronchos led big early, taking an 8-3 lead and soon going in front 11-4. The Bronchos held their biggest lead, 21-13 just before winning by the same margin, 25-17, by the set's end.

Central pulled away early again in the third set to get the sweep and the win.

Huck led the Bronchos this weekend with 44 kills, 3.38 per set. Karp finished with 39 and Wimmer 37. Houran had 94 total assists, 7.23 per set.

Central Oklahoma returns home from the season-opening Midwestern State Invitational with a 4-0 record. The Bronchos will visit Southern Nazarene Tuesday, Sept. 5 before another four-match festival next weekend at Texas Woman's in Denton.
