UCO Stumbles Against NSU

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma let two early miscues prove costly as Northeastern State picked up a 2-1 win at Tom Thompson Field Sunday afternoon.

The Bronchos (2-2-2) gave up two goals in just over two minutes in the first half and never found enough offense to overcome the early deficit.

Northeastern State (1-2-3) earned a penalty kick in the 10th minute and Sydney Taylor converted to put the guests on the scoreboard. Taylor then found another opportunity and converted in the 12th minute to make it 2-0. The Riverhawks had scored just two goals in their first five games coming into Sunday.

The goal-scoring frenzy continued in the 16th minute when Lauren Piper put home her third score of the season. She got a clear look off a rebound after Elena Conaway's shot hit the crossbar.

The shots kept coming. NSU took eight shots in the first half to UCO's seven. The Bronchos outshot NSU 9-4 in the second half. However, Central Oklahoma couldn't find the back of the net.

Amaya Grace hit the crossbar herself, once in each half. Both were inches away from tying the game. UCO had a throw in turned set piece, and two corners, all in the final 90 seconds but couldn't get anything to go.

Olivia Vigil (1-1-0) played the full 90 in goal for the Bronchos. She received a yellow card for her tackle that set up the NSU penalty in the early stages of the game. She ended up with five saves by the end of the day.

Central Oklahoma will hit the road in Week 4, visiting Rogers State on Friday night before getting their shot at a rematch next Sunday at Northeastern State.
