Central Oklahoma Crushes Newman

WICHITA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma got back in the win column in an emphatic way Thursday night with a 5-0 romp of Newman.

The match was a non-conference contest against UCO's MIAA foe. The Bronchos improved to 2-1-2 on the season with the win.

"We were better tonight, we were more aggressive on offense," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "When we go after it like that, we've been good. We need to work on being consistent moving forward."

Central Oklahoma will host Northeastern State Sunday and then play at Rogers State next Friday before officially starting MIAA play with NSU on Sept. 24.

Thursday night, UCO got the goal scoring party started early in Wichita.

Lauren Piper scored in the sixth minute off an assist from Albany Adair. Just 70 seconds later, it was Adair scoring to make it 2-0. In the 13th minute, Elena Conaway made it 3-0.

Both teams took six shots in the first half. The Bronchos put three on goal and all three in goal, while Newman only put one shot on goal and it was saved by Central keeper Olivia Vigil.

In the second half, Adair kept the good night going with her second goal in the 68th minute. Piper assisted on the score that made it 4-0. Then, like the first half, just 84 seconds after Adair scored, Amaya Grace made it 5-0 with an unassisted score in the 69th minute.

UCO took seven more shots in the second half for a total of 13 on the night. The Bronchos put four more on goal in the second half with the two scores. Newman took just two more shots in the entire second half, putting one more on goal that Vigil saved.

Vigil, playing in her first game of her junior season, played all 90 minutes and made two saves.

Central Oklahoma will be back in action Sunday afternoon to take on Northeastern State at 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
