UCO Draws At Angelo

Central Oklahoma Tied Angelo State 3-3 In The 2023 Season Opener

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Central Oklahoma opened the 2023 season Thursday night with a 3-3 tie at Angelo State.

The Bronchos will make their home debut Saturday night against Midwestern State.

"We hate that we ended in a tie the way it ended," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We had that game. But, a tie on the road isn't bad. We had some good things though and we have to build off of that. It's only the first game and we can improve from this."

Angelo State headed in the game-tying score with six seconds left on the clock. The Bronchos had a 3-1 lead with 10 minutes to play.

Albany Adair scored the first goal of the season for the Bronchos to give UCO a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. Lauren Piper picked up the assist on the play.

Jaci Decker, playing in her first career collegiate game, scored five minutes later to make it 2-0. Emma Nicholas picked up the assist on that goal.

Angelo got one back in the 68th minute, but Amaya Grace added to the Broncho lead with her first goal of the season in the 78th minute.

But ASU added another goal in the 81st minute and then came the corner kick-header score in the 90th minute to tie the match.

UCO goalkeeper Avery Bass played the full 90 in goal and made five saves. The Bronchos took eight shots in the game with four shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma hosts Midwestern State Saturday at 7 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
