Rain Pushes UCO Tourney Game To Friday

TOURNAMENT WEBSITE

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 4) –
Heavy rains washed out half the second-day schedule in the MIAA Softball Championship Thursday, moving Central Oklahoma's semifinal game to Friday morning.

The regular season champion and top-seeded Bronchos were slated to meet Central Missouri in one of two winner's bracket games Thursday, but weather limited play to the two elimination contests.

No. 4-ranked UCO, 44-6 on the season, is now set to take on the fourth-seeded Jennies (33-19) at 11 a.m. Friday at the Envista Softball Complex. The Bronchos beat Fort Hays State 8-2, while UCM topped Washburn 5-2 in Wednesday's first-round action.

Second-seeded Missouri Southern and No. 3 Rogers State meet in the other semifinal game at 1:30 p.m. The UCO/UCM loser takes on Missouri Western at 4 p.m., with the MSSU/RSU winner playing Washburn at 6:30 p.m.

The double elimination tournament will continue with three games Saturday and the championship game(s) Sunday. The tournament champion earns the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Division II national tournament, with that 64-team field set to be announced Monday morning.

"We were ready to go, but you can't control the weather," head coach Cody White said. "We just have to adapt and get refocused tomorrow."

The Bronchos and Central Missouri split their regular season doubleheader on April 8 in Edmond. The Jennies took the opener 3-2 in nine innings before UCO bounced back with a 12-0 run-rule win in the nightcap.
