Shayla Harper, Rylee Lemos Named To All-Tournament Team

UCO Has Senior and Freshman Earn Honor Following 2023 NCAA Division II Softball Championship

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Shayla Harper and Rylee Lemos were named to the 2023 NCAA Division II Softball Championship's All-Tournament Team, it was announced Wednesday following the conclusion of the event.
 
North Georgia, which won the national championship, had five selections. Runner-up Grand Valley State had three, while semifinalists UCO and UT-Tyler both had two selections. Cal-State San Marcos added one selection to round out the 13-person team.
 
"They had a great tournament," UCO head softball coach Cody White said of Harper and Lemos. "I'm happy for them to get this recognition. For Shayla to be done with her career, she gave us everything, and she'll always remember this. And for Rylee, a freshman, that's a big-time accomplishment. It's really cool for both of them."
 
Harper went 5-12 during the tournament for a .417 batting average. She had one double and one home run with three RBIs. Harper also scored three runs and was 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts. The senior third baseman from Durant, Oklahoma also had three putouts and 16 assists on defense.
 
Lemos went 4-for-12 at the plate with a double. She had three RBIs and also scored three runs, while stealing one base on the week. Lemos, a freshman from South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, had three putouts in right field and made diving catches on two of those.
 
Central Oklahoma finished the 2023 season 54-9 last week, falling in the national semifinals. The Bronchos beat Nova Southeastern in the first round before a loss to national champion North Georgia. After beating Cal-State San Marcos to reach the semifinals, UCO lost to Grand Valley State.
