Harper, Ritz Named NFCA All-Americans

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 24) – Central Oklahoma's Shayla Harper and Terin Ritz were both named third-team All-Americans by the National Softball Coaches Association during a banquet Wednesday night on the eve of the NCAA Division II Softball Championship.

The NFCA All-America teams are selected by a committee of Division II coaches from around the country.

"Shayla and Terin have played at a high level for us all season," head coach Cody White said. "It's always good to see our players get recognized and is a great reflection of our program."

Harper and Ritz have led the No. 4-ranked Bronchos to a 52-7 record, with UCO set to take on Nova Southeastern at 3 p.m. (Oklahoma time) Thursday in the first round of the eight-team Division II Softball Championship.

It's the second All-America award of the day for the two. Harper was a first-team pick and Ritz a second-team selection by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association earlier Wednesday.

Harper tops the team in average (.398), runs scored (56), home runs (14), runs batted in (54), slugging percentage (.722), on-base percentage (.464), sacrifice flies (five) and assists (113).

The senior third baseman from Durant earned first-team All-MIAA accolades and was also a first-team All-Central Region pick by both the D2CCA and NFCA in addition to being named D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year.

Ritz leads the pitching staff with a 26-2 record, three saves and a 2.07 earned run average. She's also seen action at first base and designated player and has been a force at the plate with a .357 average 12 homers and 52 RBI.

The Edmond sophomore was a D2CAA and NFCA first-team All-Central Region selection after garnering second-team All-MIAA honors.
