Terin Ritz & Amelya Huggins Sweep League Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma swept the final MIAA Softball Athlete of the Week awards, the league announced Monday, with Terin Ritz and Amelya Huggins both earning honors after the end of the regular season.

UCO went 4-0 last week, sweeping Pittsburg State and Missouri Southern. The latter earned the Bronchos their fifth MIAA regular season championship as UCO wrapped up the 2023 campaign with a 42-6 overall record and a league best 23-3 conference record.
 
Ritz helped lead the Bronchos in the circle to earn MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors. The sophomore right-hander went 2-0 with one save and had a 1.34 ERA for the weekend. Ritz pitched 15.2 innings, allowing just four runs (three earned) while walking four and striking out six. She threw an eight-inning complete game on Sunday as UCO beat MSSU to win the league title.
 
Huggins helped lead at the plate to earn MIAA Hitter of the Week. The senior catcher/designated player hit .462 with three doubles and two RBI, finishing with six hits in 13 at bats. Huggins went 3-for-6 on Saturday and then 3-for-7 with a double and an RBI to help the Bronchos win the league title.
 
Central Oklahoma opens the 2023 MIAA Softball Championship Wednesday in Topeka, Kansas. The Bronchos are the No. 1 seed in the eight-team double elimination tournament and will play Fort Hays State Wednesday at 3 p.m. The tournament runs through Saturday.
