Bronchos Swat Hornets In Opener

EMPORIA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma opened its three-game MIAA series against Emporia State with a 10-3 win on Friday night, earning win No. 30 on the year for the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma improved to 30-16 overall and is now 17-14 in the MIAA. A win by Washburn elsewhere in the league also locked UCO into the No. 5 seed in next week's MIAA Baseball Championship.

Friday, Central scored four runs in the first three innings and three more in the fifth to take command of the game, while Diego Dominguez struck out nine Hornets during his six-inning start. Dominguez earned the win, going six innings and allowing three runs on six hits and three walks.

Jaden Parsons got the scoring started in the top of the first inning. Kaleb Glass hit a one-out single and advanced to second on a throwing error by the ESU catcher. Parsons then doubled to center and scored Glass to give UCO a 1-0 lead.

Aiden Proctor gave UCO a 2-1 lead in the second when his single to right field scored Wyatt Gray, who doubled with one out earlier in the inning.

Cameron Uselton smacked two-run home run to left center in the top of the third inning, giving the Bronchos a 4-1 lead. Parsons was on base after a single.

The Bronchos kept it going in the fifth. Noah Olson doubled to right to score Glass. Uselton hit a sacrifice fly to score Olson. And Gray hit a single through the right side to score his brother, Seth Gray, who had just tripled, giving the Bronchos a 7-3 lead.

Seth took his turn on a home run ball in the seventh, scoring Uselton, and giving the Bronchos a 9-3 lead. Proctor added an RBI single in the ninth to score Austin Lambert and give the Bronchos their final 10-3 lead.
