Central Oklahoma Sweeps SWOSU Series

Cameron Uselton Hit Two Home Runs In One Inning To Lead UCO To Non-Conference Win Over Longtime Rival

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma used an explosive bottom of the third inning rally that included two home runs from Cameron Uselton alone to pull away to a 13-9 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State Tuesday night at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos improved to 29-13 with the non-conference win and swept the three-game season series from longtime intrastate rival Southwestern (20-23).

"We got it going there for a minute and that was all we needed," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "It was good to see a lot of guys getting hits and doing well at the plate. We'd have liked to kept their runs down at the end, but we also got some guys some innings that haven't pitched as much, so that's good too."

Central had a 3-1 lead after one inning and trailed 4-3 heading to the bottom of the third inning before an offensive onslaught that included 10 runs gave the Bronchos the lead for good.

Jaden Parsons led off with a single and Uselton followed with a two-run home run to left field. Seth Gray soon followed with a three-run home run to center field, scoring Trevor Stevens and Wyatt Gray and giving UCO an 8-4 lead.

Noah Olson also scored Aiden Proctor to make it 9-4 before Parsons hit another single the second time around in the lineup. That scored Olson and Kaleb Glass, and then Uselton came back up to the plate.
He pounced on the first pitch he saw and drove another one out to left field to give UCO a 13-4 lead in the game.

Though UCO only got two more hits the rest of the game, the damage was done. Southwestern rallied late, scoring two in the seventh, one in the eighth, and two more in the ninth to wittle the deficit down to four runs and the final, 13-9.

Uselton finished 2-for-4 with the two, two-run home runs in the game. Proctor led the Bronchos, going 3-for-4 with three singles and two runs scored. Parsons and Seth Gray both went 2-for-4 as well. Glass, Olson, Wyatt Gray, and Orlando Gonzalez all had one hit each.

Racer Felter got the start for the Bronchos Tuesday and only threw one inning, allowing four runs on three hits and two walks. He faced three batters in the second before Jeb Jenkins came on to pitch.

Jenkins gave up two hits, allowing runs to score charged to Felter. He struck out one batter before a line drive off his hand forced another UCO pitching change.

Bradan Pierce came on then and threw 3 1/3 dominant innings, striking out three batters while not allowing a hit.

Caleb Ebert threw one inning and Brandon Gomez 1 2/3, before Valek Cisneros came on and got the final out of the game in the top of the ninth inning.

Central Oklahoma will hit the road for the rest of the season. The Bronchos have three games at Central Missouri this weekend, one at East Central next week, and three at Emporia State to close out the 2023 regular season April 28-30.
