Bronchos Fall In Opener

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped Game 1 of its MIAA series against Northwest Missouri Friday night, falling 9-3.

UCO, now 27-12 on the year and 15-10 in league play, is back in action against NWMSU Saturday at 3 p.m. for Game 2. The third and final game of the series is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Bronchos got a gut punch in the top of the first inning, with Northwest scoring five runs on four hits to start the game. The five-run deficit nearly remained the difference as the team's were tied 2-2 from that point through 6 2/3 innings. Northwest tacked on one more in the seventh and added two in the ninth.

Diego Dominguez got the start for the Bronchos and gave up seven runs in 6 2/3 innings of work. The right-hander did strike out eight batters in the game and only issued one walk, but couldn't get the run support for UCO to stay in the game.

Jase Farmer threw 1/3 of an inning, Racer Felter threw 1 2/3, and Bradan Pierce also threw 1/3 of an inning. Farmer got the final out of the seventh in relief of Dominguez. Felter gave up two in the ninth before Pierce closed the game.

UCO scattered seven hits in the game, with the Bronchos striking out 10 times. Central also left nine runners on base in the game.

Kaleb Glass went 2-for-5, while Cameron Uselton and Austin Lambert both went 2-for-4. Aiden Proctor had UCO's only other hit in the game.

Glass' single in the bottom of the third inning scored Orlando Gonzalez to make it 5-1. Lambert singled in the sixth to score Uselton, and make it 6-2. Proctor scored Landen Wood in the bottom of the ninth with a sacrifice fly to make it the final, 9-3.
