UCO Falls in Series Finale

Bronchos Win MIAA Series at Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – No. 10 Central Oklahoma lost a back-and-forth affair with Rogers State Monday afternoon by a final score of 5-3.

UCO, which won the three-game series, 2-1, is now 14-3 on the season and the Bronchos have a 5-1 record in the MIAA. Rogers State is 12-5, 2-4.

"We hate to lose the last game of the series, but we did win the series and that's the goal every weekend," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We were solid on Saturday and Sunday and got two wins, and I think we could have gotten another one today, but it didn't go our way."

Central Oklahoma took a 2-0 lead early in the game, fell behind 3-2, and then tied the game up late. But an untimely rally for the home team put it away.

Marcos Lopez got the start for the Bronchos and gave up three runs on one hit over 2 2/3 innings of work. He did walk four batters as well. The three-run home run in the bottom of the third was all it took for Rogers State to erase the early Broncho lead.

Caleb Burchfield came on in relief and threw 4 1/3 innings. He allowed only one run on three hits and struck out five on the day. He took the loss though as his one run allowed was the difference. Valek Cisneros also appeared on the mound for UCO and gave up one run on two hits and a walk.

Rogers State opened the game hitting Kaleb Glass and then walking both Aiden Proctor and Cameron Uselton. Seth Gray grounded into a double play, but Glass scored to give UCO a 1-0 lead.

In the second, Austin Lambert hit a one-out single up the middle, advanced to second on another RSU walk, and then scored when Glass singled to right center to give UCO the 2-0 lead.

It wasn't until the seventh when Uselton scored Proctor on a two-out single to center field. Proctor had just hit a two-out single himself and stole second before scoring from there on Uselton's base hit. That tied the game, 3-3.

Proctor finished 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Glass, Uselton, Lambert, and Landen Wood all had singles in the game.

Central Oklahoma has a quick turnaround, with a non-conference midweek matchup at Southwestern Oklahoma State scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
