No. 10 Bronchos Win Again At Rogers State

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Central Oklahoma got a strong start from Chris Spry and carried a steady offensive effort to beat Rogers State 5-1 Sunday in the second game of the three-game MIAA series.

No. 10 UCO, now 14-2 on the season and 5-0 in the MIAA, wraps up the series Monday at 1 p.m.

Spry went seven innings and allowed only one run on four hits. He didn't walk a single batter and struck out two. He had a near even split of 11 flyouts to eight groundouts.

The left-handed arm gave up a leadoff double, followed by a sacrifice bunt and an RBI groundout. That tied the game, 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.

Spry gave up a two-out single after that, but then only allowed singles in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings as Rogers State struggled to handle the Jenks, Oklahoma native.

Kaleb Glass tripled to leadoff the game for the Bronchos and scored on the next at bat when Aiden Proctor grounded out to second base. That gave UCO a 1-0 lead before Rogers had a chance to even it in the bottom of the inning.

UCO put up three in the fourth to take control. Jaden Parsons led off with walk and then a wild play followed where Orlando Gonzalez reached on a throwing error by the RSU pitcher and made it all the way to third base on the play. Parsons scored to give UCO the 2-1 lead.

After Noah Olson struck out swinging, Austin Lambert singled through the left side to score Gonzalez and make it 3-1. Glass scored Lambert on a sacrifice bunt to third base.

UCO added one more in the sixth. Lambert drew a one-out walk and advanced to third when Glass singled through the left side. He scored when Proctor reached on a fielder's choice that got Glass out at second base. But UCO had its final, 5-1.

Glass led the Bronchos, going 3-for-4 with a single, a double, and a triple. He had one RBI and scored one run. Parsons went 2-for-3 with two walks, and Matt Baughn went 2-for-2 with one walk. Lambert also had one hit and three walks with his one RBI and two runs scored.

Central Oklahoma has now taken the season series from both of its first two MIAA opponents. The Bronchos swept Missouri Western last weekend and look to do the same Monday at Rogers State.
