Bronchos Start Drury Classic With Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (March 4) – Corrina Rivas and Terin Ritz combined for a two-hitter while striking out 10 batters to lead No. 9-ranked Central Oklahoma past Minnesota-Crookston 8-1 Saturday morning in the first game of the Drury Classic.

The Bronchos improved to 11-3 with their fifth straight win. UCO finishes Saturday play against Augustana at 4 p.m., then returns Sunday to face Nebraska-Kearney at 11:30 a.m. and the host Panthers at 1:30 p.m.

Rivas started and went the first five innings, giving up two hits and the lone run while fanning seven. Ritz didn't allow a hit and struck out three in throwing the final two frames.

Jacee Minter went 4-for-4 with a home run and double to pace a nine-hit attack. Ritz added two hits and Emily Deramus also socked a homer.

The Bronchos went on top 1-0 in the bottom of the second on Minter's solo homer and the junior star made it 2-0 in the third with an RBI single.

The Golden Eagles scored their lone run in the top of the fifth, but UCO responded with five in its half of the inning to break the game open.

Deramus belted a solo shot and Ritz a run-scoring single, with the Bronchos scoring two more runs on wild pitches and another on a bases-loaded hit batter.

Harper's RBI groundout in the sixth completed the scoring.
