Bronchos Fall To Tigers, Series Tied

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma never got going on offense Saturday as the Bronchos dropped a 9-2 decision to Fort Hays State in the second of three MIAA games at Wendell Simmons Field this weekend.
 
UCO is 17-7 overall and 7-5 in the MIAA following the loss. The rubber match is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Fort Hays State (10-16, 3-9) eased into a 2-0 lead with one run in the third and fourth innings, but a big rally in the fifth followed and the Tigers held a 6-0 before making it 8-0 in the sixth. FHSU went in front 9-0 in the eighth before UCO finally got on the scoreboard with a quick rally in the bottom of the eighth.
 
Central Oklahoma managed just six hits in the game. Seth Gray had two doubles, including a two-RBI shot down the right field line in the eighth. Jaden Parsons was also 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Cameron Uselton and Orlando Gonzalez both went 1-for-4 with singles.
 
Caleb Burchfield got the start for Central Oklahoma Saturday. The junior right-hander threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out the side in the top of the first and finished with five strikeouts.
 
Braden Pierce was the first of six relievers out of the bullpen. He threw 1/3 of an inning, striking out one before giving up two runs on one hit. Aiden Bagwell came on for Pierce and walked two batters before being replaced by Brandon Gomez. Gomez gave up two runs on two hits and a walk and struck out one.
 
Racer Felter threw 1 1/3 and didn't allow a run on two hits. He struck out one batter. Marcos Lopez threw one inning and gave up one run on one hit and two walks. Caleb Ebert also threw one inning and didn't allow a run or a hit and struck out one batter.
 
Central Oklahoma and Fort Hays State will play the third and final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bronchos play at Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday for a midweek non-conference game.
