UCO Wraps Up Home Slate With Victory

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma opened the final home game at Hamilton Field House with a wire-to-wire 72-57 victory over rival Northeastern State.

UCO scored the first seven points of the game and never looked back, leading by as many as 26 points in route to victory.

"The team was really focused tonight," UCO head women's coach Emma Andrews said. "We didn't play great in the first half, we couldn't make a shot, but we stayed focused and the shots started falling. They did a great job of staying in the game and putting it away in the end."

Central Oklahoma improved to 10-14 overall and 7-13 in league play. The Bronchos are tied for ninth place in the league standings, one back from seventh, with one week left in the regular season. UCO plays at Northwest Missouri, which is tied for seventh, on Thursday, and at Newman, which is one game back of the Bronchos in 11th place, next Saturday in the final game of the season.

The 2023 MIAA Basketball Championship begins Wednesday, March 1 in Kansas City.

Karly Wadsworth made a layup with an assist from Brooke Rayner to open the game. Rayner followed with two free-throws, and Alayzha Knapp knocked down a 3-pointer with an assist from Aliyah Llanusa. UCO was up 7-0 four minutes into the game and the Bronchos never looked back.

Central had a 15-5 lead later in the first quarter and led 19-8 at the end of the first frame.

UCO blew it open in the third quarter. After NSU scored on its opening possession, the Bronchos followed with a 12-2 run. Central had a 13-0 run later in the frame, and led 54-34, heading to the final quarter.
