Bronchos Roll In Regular Season Finale

No. 16 Central Oklahoma Sweeps Northwest Missouri 3-0 On Senior Day

EDMOND – It was a ho-hum 19-dig performance for Jaedynn Evans in her final Central Oklahoma home appearance Saturday afternoon as the No. 16-ranked Bronchos didn't need any defensive heroics from the senior superstar.

UCO overwhelmed Northwest Missouri 25-12, 25-12, 25-17 in the regular season finale at Hamilton Field House, finishing runner-up in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association at 17-3. The Bronchos improved to 26-4 on the season headed into next week's MIAA Tournament in St. Joseph, Mo.

Evans, the team's lone senior who leads the nation in digs per set (6.35), maintained that average with her 19-dig outing. The returning All-American moved into 10th place on UCO's single-season digs chart with 610. Her 775 total last year is No. 3 on that list.

The Bronchos had a team-high .449 attack percentage in the mismatch, collecting 48 kills in 89 attempts with just eight errors. Mallorie Koehn led the way with 14 kills.

Addison Wimmer hit .438 with nine kills, while Jenna Karp had eight kills in 12 attacks for a .667 percentage to go along with two blocks. Sydney Huck also had eight kills, hitting .438, and Lari Migliorino hit .500 with six kills.

Lindsey Houran handed our 40 assists with six digs and Andrea Coady also had six digs.

"It was good to finish on a good note, especially in Jaedynn's last home match with all she has done for the program the past two years," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We played well and our offense was really efficient.

"It was a good regular season, but now we have to put that behind us and get ready for the conference tournament."

UCO will be the No. 2 seed in the eight-team league tourney behind regular season champion Central Missouri. The Bronchos will meet seventh-seeded Missouri Southern at noon Thursday in the first of four opening-round matches. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. and the 2023 MIAA Volleyball Championship match is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.

Koehn had six kills in the opening set and UCO took command early in that one, zipping to a 9-2 lead. The Bearcats were within four at 13-9, but Migliorino had a block, Koehn followed with a kill and the Bronchos finished the set with a 12-3 run.

NWMSU led 3-1 early in the second set and it was tied 6-6 before UCO seized control. Wimmer knocked down three kills, Koehn had a kill and an ace and the Bronchos went on an 8-1 run to make it 14-7 en route to the lopsided win.

Karp was a perfect 5-for-5 on attack attempts to key the third-set rout that give the Bronchos their 17th sweep of the season.
