Bronchos Blank UNK

KEARNEY, Neb. – Central Oklahoma beat Nebraska Kearney 2-0 Friday afternoon to begin a four-game road trip with a victory.

Central Oklahoma improved to 4-2-5 on the season with win. The Bronchos are now 1-0-3 in the MIAA.

"Our defense was really good today in limiting their chances," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We played solid and it was good to see. That's a good way to start a road trip too. But we also know we need to play better on Sunday to try and get some momentum going."

UCO only took three shots in the first half, but two were on goal and one found the back of the net. The Bronchos got on the scoreboard in the 42nd minute. Lauren Piper had the ball near the end line when she passed it to Amaya Grace near the top of the 6-yard box. Grace quickly turned to shoot and put the ball in the back of the net to give Central Oklahoma a 1-0 lead in the contest.

UCO got a second goal less than 20 minutes into the second half, but this one didn't come off a shot. Stormie Ramsey had the ball on the right side of the box after Madison Linavong passed in a short kick on a corner. Ramsey sent in a cross and a UNK defender tried to deflect the ball out, but instead, redirected it right into the goal to give UCO a 2-0 lead.

The Bronchos took six shots in the second half and put five on goal, although it ended up that a pass resulted in the other score.

UCO finished the game with nine total shots, putting six on goal. The Bronchos managed four corner kicks too.

Caroline Faulkner played the full 90 minutes in goal and made two saves. She moved over 90 saves for her career (91). Faulkner has been in 10th place on UCO's all-time saves list for a couple of weeks. If, or when, she gets to 100 career saves, she'll move up to ninth place.

UCO held Kearney to eight total shots, four in each half, and just two shots on goal, both in the first half.

Central Oklahoma is beginning a four-game MIAA road swing. The Bronchos are also scheduled to play at Fort Hays State on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hays, Kansas. UCO will play at Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri next weekend before returning home again on Friday, Oct. 20.
